Timber Canopy Addition, Kootenay Lake
This unique timber frame design was inspired by the loss of a dearly cherished shade tree to the pine beetle. Here, a light scale timber truss is developed to eliminate a deep horizontal support beam by creating a parallel 'built-up' beam that supports a steel tension rod primary truss system. The end result is a modest and transparent timber frame canopy that provides views to the lake, and a transparency that mimics tree branches.
